♻️ Transforming hard-to-treat waste into construction materials while reducing CO₂ emissions.
This is a case study conducted by ProtectGD and collaborators from the University of Melbourne, the University of Tokyo, and VinUni on the application of semi-dry geopolymer technology to process challenging inorganic solid waste streams: waste-to-energy (WTE) fly ash and red mud.
Through a life cycle assessment (LCA), the study recorded a 55–76% reduction in CO₂-equivalent emissions compared to benchmark cement-based brick systems, covering the scope from raw materials to the factory gate.
The results provide a scientific basis for developing low-emission materials, promoting the circular economy, and supporting environmental goals within the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework.
