Steel Slag

The most stable and uniform chemical composition among the eight waste streams — ideal for large-scale industrial production.

Problem / Context

The steel industry generates enormous quantities of slag from the iron and steelmaking processes.

Some slag is used as aggregate, but many types of slag (especially BOF/EAF steelmaking slag) are difficult to utilize due to their volume expansion, leading to accumulation and landfilling.

Market size

Market size

  • Global steel slag volume: approximately 400–500 million tons/year.
  • Vietnam has a large and growing steel industry → concentrated and stable source of slag.
  • The demand for low-carbon materials for infrastructure is increasing.

Technical

Technical specifications

  • Rich in calcium, silica, and iron — good hydraulic/pozzolanic activity.
  • The most uniform composition among waste materials → easier to control quality.
  • High hardness, suitable for use as aggregate and load-bearing structural elements.

ProtectGD Solution

The homogeneity of steel slag allows ProtectGD to control consistent output quality and produce on an industrial scale. Geopolymerizing steel slag for high-strength structural elements also addresses the expansion issues of raw slag.

BRING VALUE

Economy

Stable, high-quality raw materials → large-scale production, good profit margins.

Addressing accumulated slag, reducing CO₂, and utilizing readily available industrial materials.
